I'm back...!

Hello everyone and its gud to be back online again...

Alot of things have happened in the last 5? months and I don't know where to begin.

Before I begin, I just want to Congratulate PNG on its 33rd year of Independence as a democratic country. GOD Bless Papua New Guinea!

One of the major concerns today has been the impact of soaring world oil prices on the cost of basic goods and services here. It is a worldwide trend that has hit our shores and made everyone aware of the global world that we live in.

Take for example our staple food of rice. The price of a 10Kg Roots rice bag has gone from around K36.00 to K43.00. The price may vary in other centers but the percentage increase is the same. This has had a major impact on the buying power of our hard-earned wage/salary.

It is difficult enough trying to raise two energetic young children, and this just adds on to the woes of being a single bread-winner in the family!

Land of the Unexpected

The Land of the Unexpected...

That is how PNG is described. It is a fitting description in that you just do not know what to expect. In a land with over 800 plus languages, and so much diversity in traditions and cultures, you can never know what to expect. Take for instance the Highlands of PNG. In Eastern Highlands alone, the difference in two neighboring villages can be and is very distinct.
Add on top of that the variety and range of wildlife, flora and fauna. From some of the best natural diving spots in the world to unexplored forests teeming with undiscovered species, this is a tropical paradise. From the high mountain ranges (Mt Wilhelm is the tallest peak in PNG at an altitude of 4509m or 14790ft) to the warm tropical islands, there is so much to see and do.

PNG's pride lies in its natural heritage. It truly is the land of the Unexpected.

Introduction to Papua New Guinea

Hi everyone,

Its been about a week since I started my blog. I have been doing some web surfing to find out what other's in the blogging community have been up to and what it takes to be a blogger. The only thing I can conclude from my research is that it is just a online diary... but nevertheless, it is a diary of what I am talking about....not exactly a day to day thing... but nevertheless a diary of sorts.

My story will be basically about daily life in Papua New Guinea. It doesn't make for interesting reading, however, I hope it portrays the real challenges of life. I guess no matter where we live, we all have the same issue's that we face on a daily basis. I just want to show you how it is where I'm at.

First of all, let me introduce you all to Papua New Guinea (also known as PNG... from here on I will use the shortened version). It is a Pacific Island nation just north of Australia in the Southern Hemisphere. PNG shares the island with Indonesia to the east. The country of PNG is made up of 19 provinces (what you would call states) with its capital situated in Port Moresby city. There are so many things to tell you about the nation...I really am at a loss on where to start.

I will try to give a brief description as best as I can. If I make omissions, or have stated something in error, please let me know. PNG has tropical rainforests, with a lot of flaura and fauna yet to be discovered. Most of the people are rural subsistence farmers, who live off the land. The country gained Independence on September 16th 1975. Since then, the country has been thrown from the Stone Age into this age of technology.

I will leave it here for now and continue when I catch up with you next.

Welcome to my blog

This is my first blog so I really have a lot to learn about blogging. Nevertheless, I will be back soon with more news soon on a regular basis.

I am basically writing about life here in Papua New Guinea for a single working mom. I just want to write about everyday living, struggles and hardships that the normal (???) person goes through. Well...I like to think of myself as normal.

First of all I want to introduce Papua New Guinea. It is a Pacific Island nation just to the north of the continent of Australia. I have come across alot of people on the web who ask where PNG is as in...is there such a place... until I mention that it is north of Australia and then they are like...oh...okay!

It is a very beautiful country. I will expound on its virtues next time so please check up this space later.
